Course code: 136471
Language of instruction: English
Duration of the course: 33 days (297h)
Lecturers: Lic.Tech Pertti Auerkari (VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland), Prof. Dr. Aleksandar S. Jovanovic (Steinbeis EU-VRi GmbH)
Assessment: Written Exam Transfer Paper [optional topic for Project Study Paper]
Credit points: 10 CPs

Short description

This optional compulsory module presents current global and regional issues in petrochemical industries and explains principles of risk based inspection. It deals with existing risk-based approaches and gives links to applied codes and standards. Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM) and Root Cause Failure Analysis (RCFA) are methodologies used for the logical decision-making process of analysis and definition of the equipment maintenance requirements, as well as for accident prevention. Practical examples with the state-of-art tools are applied by the student in terms of self-study and independent work.

Objectives

In the end of the module the participants are expected to:

  • get familiar with risk aspects and methods for hazard identification applied in petrochemical industries
  • learn how to perform probability and consequences analysis and risk assessment
  • recognize what are the health, safety and environment issues related to petrochemical industries
  • know why RBI analysis is used and what are benefits and limitations of various RBI technologies
  • make the difference between qualitative and quantitative approaches to RBI methods
  • be aware of the future industry trends in RBI
  • Understand and be able to apply different maintenance strategies
  • differentiate a trendable from a non-trendable damage mechanisms
  • have a critical point of view on how reliable NDT techniques are and what are influencing factors

Target Attendees / Participants

University students of Steinbeis European Master Program in Risk Engineering and Management, and similar programs.
